एवं स गौतम: पुत्र प्रीतिहर्षगुणैर्युत: । अभिनन्द्य महाप्राज्ञ इदे वचनमब्रवीत्,महामते! इस प्रकार प्रेम और हर्षसे भरे हुए गौतमने पुत्रका अभिनन्दन करके यह बात कही--
evaṁ sa gautamaḥ putra prīti-harṣa-guṇair yutaḥ | abhinandya mahāprājña idaṁ vacanam abravīt mahāmate ||
Bhishma said: Thus Gautama, filled with the virtues of affection and joy, warmly welcomed his son and then spoke these words, O great-minded one—setting the stage for counsel grounded in right conduct and discernment.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tone for instruction: counsel should arise from goodwill—affection and joy—so that guidance is offered with warmth, respect, and wisdom rather than harshness or pride.
Bhishma narrates that the sage Gautama, pleased and affectionate, welcomes his son and then begins to speak—introducing the next segment of advice or teaching that follows.
