Adhyāya 241: Guṇa-sṛṣṭi, Kṣetrajña-sākṣitva, and Śama through Ātma-jñāna (गुणसृष्टिः, क्षेत्रज्ञसाक्षित्वं, शमः)

कर्मणा बध्यते जन्तुर्विद्यया तु प्रमुच्यते । तस्मात्‌ कर्म न कुर्वन्ति यतय: पारदर्शिन:,“सकामकर्मसे मनुष्य बन्धनमें पड़ता है और ज्ञानसे मुक्त हो जाता है, अतः दूरदर्शी यति कर्म नहीं करते हैं

karmaṇā badhyate jantur vidyayā tu pramucyate | tasmāt karma na kurvanti yatayaḥ pāradarśinaḥ ||

Bhishma said: A living being is bound by action, but is released through true knowledge. Therefore, the far-seeing ascetics do not engage in action—understanding that deeds driven by desire fasten the soul to bondage, while insight leads toward liberation.
