बद्धः पाशैशच्युत: स्थानाद्‌ द्विषतां वशमागतः । श्रिया विहीनो नमुचे शोचस्यथाहो न शोचसि,“नमुचे! तुम रस्सियोंसे बाँधे गये, राज्यसे भ्रष्ट हुए, शत्रुओंके वशमें पड़े और धन- सम्पत्तिसे वंचित हो गये। तुम्हें अपनी इस दुरवस्थापर शोक होता है या नहीं?”

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca | baddhaḥ pāśaiś cyutaḥ sthānād dviṣatāṃ vaśam āgataḥ | śriyā vihīno namuce śocasy athāho na śocasi ||

Translation

Bhishma said: “O Namuci, you have been bound with ropes, cast down from your position, fallen under the control of your enemies, and deprived of prosperity. Do you grieve over this wretched condition of yours—or, astonishingly, do you not grieve at all?”
