Time-Reckoning, Yuga-Dharma, and the Sequence of Creation
आहु: सर्वमिदं चिन्त्यं जना: केचिन्मनीषया । अस्या: पज्चैव चिन्ताया: पर्येष्यामि च पञजचधा,कुछ विद्वान् अपनी बुद्धिके बलसे कहते हैं कि यह सब कुछ कालसंज्ञक ब्रह्म है। इसका इसी रूपमें चिन्तन करना चाहिये। इस चिन्तनके मास आदि उपर्युक्त पाँच ही विषय हैं। मैं पूर्वोक्त पाँच भेदोंसे युक्त कालको जानता हूँ
āhuḥ sarvam idaṃ cintyaṃ janāḥ kecin manīṣayā | asyāḥ pañcaiva cintāyāḥ paryeṣyāmi ca pañcadhā ||
Śakra said: “Some thoughtful people, by the power of their intellect, declare that all this is to be contemplated as Brahman under the designation ‘Time’ (kāla). One should meditate upon it precisely in that form. This contemplation has five principal objects; I shall examine and set forth this fivefold contemplation.”
श॒क्र उवाच
The verse presents a contemplative doctrine: some sages identify the ultimate principle (Brahman) with ‘Time’ (kāla) and recommend meditating on reality through that lens, structured as a fivefold inquiry.
Indra (Śakra) speaks, reporting a philosophical view held by certain wise thinkers and announcing that he will analyze and explain a five-part scheme of contemplation concerning Time as the supreme principle.
