Indra and Namuci on grief, composure, and inevitability

वाक्‌ च शब्दविशेषार्थमिति पज्चान्वितं विदु: । एवमेकादशैतानि बुद्धया55शु विसृजेन्मन:,वाक्‌-इन्द्रिय शब्दविशेषका उच्चारण करनेके लिये है। इस प्रकार पाँच कर्मन्द्रियोंको पाँच विषयोंसे युक्त माना गया है। मनसहित एकादश इन्द्रियोंके विषयोंका बुद्धिके द्वारा शीघ्र त्याग कर देना चाहिये

vāk ca śabdaviśeṣārtham iti pañcānvitaṃ viduḥ | evam ekādaśaitāni buddhyāśu visṛjen manaḥ ||

Bhīṣma said: Speech exists for the specific purpose of articulating sound and its distinctions; thus the five organs of action are understood to be conjoined with their five respective objects. In this way, the mind—together with the eleven faculties—should swiftly relinquish their objects through the discerning power of intellect, turning away from sense-engagement toward inner restraint.
