Prahlāda–Indra Saṃvāda: Kartṛtva (Agency) and Svabhāva (Nature) in the Causation of Karma
अहिंसा सत्यवचन सर्वभूतेषु चार्जवम् । क्षमा चैवाप्रमादश्न यस्यैते स सुखी भवेत्,अहिंसा, सत्यभाषण, समस्त प्राणियोंके प्रति सरलतापूर्ण बर्ताव, क्षमा तथा प्रमादशून्यता--ये गुण जिस पुरुषमें विद्यमान हों, वही सुखी होता है
ahiṃsā satyavacanaṃ sarvabhūteṣu cārjavam | kṣamā caivāpramādaś ca yasyaite sa sukhī bhavet ||
Bhīṣma said: Non-violence, truthfulness in speech, straightforward conduct toward all living beings, forgiveness, and vigilant freedom from negligence—whoever possesses these virtues becomes truly happy.
भीष्म उवाच
Happiness is grounded in dharmic character: practicing non-violence, speaking truth, behaving with straightforwardness toward all beings, forgiving others, and remaining vigilant against moral carelessness.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhīṣma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira by listing key virtues and stating that the person who embodies them attains happiness.
