Bhishma said: Those who truly understand the inner Self—pure, unsurpassed knowledge—and who, using their intellect, steadily reflect on the coming and going of living beings in this cycle of transmigration, gradually attain that stainless and highest spiritual wisdom. Having attained it, they reach supreme peace.
भीष्म उवाच
Steady, discerning reflection on the cycle of transmigration (the coming and going of beings) leads a person to pure, highest spiritual knowledge (adhyātma-jñāna), and that realization culminates in supreme peace.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction section, Bhishma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira on liberation-oriented dharma: he praises the gradual, reasoned pursuit of inner knowledge—associated here with Vidura’s adhyātma teaching—as the means to attain ultimate tranquility.
