Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature

atibhāvagatā buddhir bhāve manasi vartate | pravartamānaṁ tu rajas tadbhāvam anuvartate ||

Bhishma said: Even after one has transcended the grosser states of feeling, the intellect that has entered into those states continues to abide subtly within the mind as a disposition. Then, when one rises from deep absorption, the activating force of rajas (restless energy) begins to operate and follows that same mental disposition—showing how latent impressions can reassert themselves unless fully mastered.
