Bhishma said: “Do not abandon yourself—do not think of giving up your life—because of any accusation, even if it is true and able to strip you of honor. O brahmarshi, rise up for the sake of dharma; you are not fit to renounce yourself. Stand firm in righteous conduct, rather than yielding to despair or social disgrace.”

Educational Q&A

One should not abandon life or duty out of shame caused by accusation or loss of social standing—even if the charge is true. The higher path is to rise and act for dharma with steadiness and self-restraint.

In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs a brahmarshi-like interlocutor, urging him not to succumb to despair over damaging public report, but to stand up and pursue righteous conduct.
