Śānti-parva 168: Śoka-nivṛtti-buddhi (The Cognition that Reduces Grief) and Piṅgalā’s Nairāśya

युधिछिर उवाच निःसंशयं निश्चितधर्मशास्त्रा: सर्वे भवन्तो विदितप्रमाणा: । विज्ञातुकामस्य ममेह वाक्य- मुक्त यद्धै नैष्ठिकं तच्छुतं मे । इदं त्ववश्यं गदतो ममापि वाक्‍्यं निबोधध्वमनन्यभावा:,युधिष्ठिर बोले--बन्धुओ! इसमें संदेह नहीं कि आपलोग धर्मशास्त्रोंके सिद्धान्तोंपर विचार करके एक निश्चयपर पहुँच चुके हैं। आपलोगोंको प्रमाणोंका भी ज्ञान प्राप्त है। मैं सबके विचार जानना चाहता था, इसलिये मेरे सामने यहाँ आपलोगोंने जो अपना-अपना निश्चित सिद्धान्त बताया है, वह सब मैंने ध्यानसे सुना है। अब आप, मैं जो कुछ कह रहा हूँ, मेरी उस बातको भी अनन्यचित्त होकर अवश्य सुनिये

Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca—niḥsaṁśayaṁ niścita-dharmaśāstrāḥ sarve bhavanto vidita-pramāṇāḥ | vijñātukāmasya mameha vākyaṁ yuktā yad dhai naiṣṭhikaṁ tac chrutaṁ me | idaṁ tv avaśyaṁ gadato mamāpi vākyaṁ nibodhadhvam ananya-bhāvāḥ ||

Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Without doubt, all of you have reached firm conclusions after examining the teachings of the Dharmaśāstras, and you are well acquainted with the authoritative means of proof. Since I wished to learn your views, I have listened carefully to each of the settled doctrines you have presented here. Now, please listen with undivided attention to what I, too, am about to say.”
