Śānti-parva 168: Śoka-nivṛtti-buddhi (The Cognition that Reduces Grief) and Piṅgalā’s Nairāśya

तस्माद्‌ धर्मप्रधानेन साध्यो<र्थ: संयतात्मना । विश्वस्तेषु हि भूतेषु कल्पते सर्वमेव हि,इसलिये मनुष्य अपने मनको संयममें रखकर जीवनमें धर्मको प्रधानता देते हुए पहले धर्माचरण करके ही फिर धनका साधन करे; क्योंकि धर्मपरायण पुरुषपर ही समस्त प्राणियोंका विश्वास होता है और जब सभी प्राणी विश्वास करने लगते हैं तब मनुष्यका सारा काम स्वत: सिद्ध हो जाता है

tasmād dharmapradhānena sādhyo 'rthaḥ saṁyatātmanā | viśvastēṣu hi bhūtēṣu kalpatē sarvam eva hi ||

Therefore, a self-controlled person should pursue material aims only by giving primacy to dharma—first practicing righteousness and only then seeking wealth. For all beings place their trust in one who is devoted to dharma; and when trust is established among all, a person’s undertakings come to fruition of their own accord.
