Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca
यद् यदेवंगतेनाद्य शक्यं कर्तु मया तव । तदाज्ञापय कर्तास्मि संधिरेवास्तु नौ सखे,“सखे! इस दशामें पड़े हुए मुझ सेवकके द्वारा तुम्हारा जो-जो कार्य किया जा सकता हो, उसके लिये मुझे आज्ञा दो, मैं अवश्य करूँगा। हम दोनोंमें संधि रहनी चाहिये
yad yadevaṃgatena adya śakyaṃ kartuṃ mayā tava | tad ājñāpaya kartāsmi sandhir evāstu nau sakhe ||
Bhishma said: “Friend, in the condition I am in now, whatever service I am still able to do for you—command me to do it; I will surely carry it out. Let there be reconciliation and concord between us, my friend.”
भीष्म उवाच
Even in weakness or decline, one should uphold dharma through humility, readiness to serve, and a sincere commitment to peace (sandhi) rather than continued hostility.
Bhishma, speaking from a diminished condition, tells his interlocutor that he will do whatever is still within his power if commanded, and he urges that their relationship be governed by reconciliation and concord.
