Educational Q&A

The line signals a shift to a didactic example: by recalling the ‘case of Nakula and the owl,’ Bhīṣma frames ethical instruction through an illustrative narrative, implying that past events and exempla should guide present judgment in matters of dharma.

Bhīṣma, continuing his discourse in Śānti Parva, indicates that in that setting the discussion turned to (or included) the particular episode involving Nakula and an owl—introducing or referencing a story used to clarify the point under consideration.
