नकुलं हरिणं नाम चपलं॑ ताम्रलोचनम्‌ | तेन मूषिकगन्धेन त्वरमाणमुपागतम्‌,वह जातिका न्यौला था। उसकी आँखें ताँबेके समान दिखायी देती थीं। वह चपल नेवला हरिणके नामसे प्रसिद्ध था और उसी चूहेकी गन्ध पाकर बड़ी उतावलीके साथ वहाँ आ पहुँचा था

nakulaṃ hariṇaṃ nāma capalaṃ tāmralocanam | tena mūṣikagandhena tvaramāṇam upāgatam ||

Bhishma said: “A nimble nakula (mongoose), copper-eyed, known by the name Hariṇa, caught the scent of a mouse and hurried swiftly to that place.”
