Śārṭūla said: “You are far-sighted and of great enterprise; your aim is broad and clearly fixed. You are mighty in strength, accomplished in action, and one whose efforts do not go in vain—moreover, you are adorned with good fortune.”
शार्टूल उवाच
The verse presents an ethical portrait of an ideal agent/leader: long-term vision (dīrghadarśī), energetic initiative (mahotsāha), clarity and breadth of purpose (sthūlalakṣya), strength (mahābala), competence (kṛtī), and effectiveness (amoghakartā). It also acknowledges bhāgya (fortune) as an embellishing factor that supports, rather than replaces, merit and effort.
Śārṭūla addresses and praises the person before him, enumerating their virtues and capacities. The speech functions as commendation and validation, framing the addressee as fit for responsibility due to a combination of character, capability, and favorable destiny.
