Having then accepted the honors offered—appropriate to that time—the sages, in accordance with proper decorum, sat close by. Surrounding King Yudhiṣṭhira, whose mind was overwhelmed with grief on the holy bank of the Bhāgīrathī, they remained near him, offering reassurance and support.

Educational Q&A

Even in the aftermath of catastrophe, dharma expresses itself through yathānyāya conduct—accepting and offering due honors, and providing compassionate presence to one overwhelmed by sorrow. Ethical order is maintained not only by rules but by timely, appropriate support.

After receiving the proper honors, the assembled sages remain seated around King Yudhiṣṭhira on the sacred bank of the Bhāgīrathī. Seeing him grief-stricken, they stay close, encircle him respectfully, and reassure him according to established decorum.
