Educational Q&A

Even in a violent and morally complex setting like war, dharmic conduct is sustained through basic virtues—courteous inquiry after welfare (kuśala-saṃvida) and affectionate regard for allies. The verse highlights that ethical life is not only in grand vows but also in humane gestures that preserve solidarity and right intention.

After an exchange of proper greetings and words of well-being, a character (referred to simply as ‘he’) embraces Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) and Sātyaki affectionately, signaling closeness, alliance, and mutual support within the unfolding events of the Śalya Parva.
