Kṛpa’s Counsel to Duryodhana
चेकितान: शिखण्डी च द्रौपदेयाश्ष मारिष । हत्वा त्वदीयं सुमहत् सैन्यं शड्खानथाधमन्
cekītānaḥ śikhaṇḍī ca draupadeyāś ca māriṣa | hatvā tvadīyaṃ sumahat sainyaṃ śaṅkhān athādhman ||
Sañjaya said: “O noble one, Cekītāna, Śikhaṇḍī, and the sons of Draupadī, having slain a very large portion of your army, then blew their conches.”
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how martial success is publicly marked through ritualized battlefield signals (conch-blowing), reinforcing collective morale and the ethical weight of victory in war—where triumph is announced not merely as personal glory but as a rallying sign for one’s side.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Cekītāna, Śikhaṇḍī, and the sons of Draupadī have inflicted heavy losses on the Kaurava forces; after this successful assault, they blow their conches as a signal of victory and coordination.
