Adhyāya 21 — Duryodhanasya bāṇavarṣaḥ
Duryodhana’s Arrow-Storm and the Dust-Obscured Engagements
वहाँ कृतवर्माका शत्रुओंके साथ होनेवाला युद्ध अत्यन्त आश्चर्यजनक प्रतीत होता था; क्योंकि उसने अकेले ही दुर्जय पाण्डव-सेनाकी प्रगति रोक दी थी ।। तेषामन्योन्यसुहदां कृते कर्मणि दुष्करे । सिंहनाद: प्रह्ृष्टानां दिविस्पूक् सुमहान भूत्,एक-दूसरेका हित चाहनेवाले कौरवसैनिक कृतवमकि द्वारा यह दुष्कर पराक्रम किये जानेपर अत्यन्त हर्षमें भर गये। उनका महान् सिंहनाद आकाशमें गूँज उठा
sañjaya uvāca | teṣām anyonya-suhṛdāṃ kṛte karmaṇi duṣkare | siṃhanādaḥ prahṛṣṭānāṃ divi spṛk sumahān abhūt ||
Sañjaya said: When Kṛtavarman accomplished that difficult feat for the sake of those Kauravas who wished one another’s welfare, the delighted warriors raised a mighty lion-roar that seemed to touch the heavens. In the grim dharma of war, his solitary stand—checking the advance of the otherwise hard-to-overcome Pāṇḍava host—became a rallying point for comradeship and martial resolve, even as it intensified the violence of the day.
