Śālva’s Elephant Assault and the Counterstroke (शाल्वस्य नागारूढाभ्यवहारः)

ājā saṅgrāme subalaputra-vīraḥ śakuniḥ tathā dvitīyāḥ sarve pramukhā vīrāḥ hatāḥ; tataḥ teṣāṃ śatrave 'tyanta-duḥsahā mādryāḥ kumārayor nakula-sahadevayoḥ śaktyā api jñānaṃ bhaviṣyati. kathaṃ jayo na teṣāṃ syād yeṣāṃ yoddhā dhanañjayaḥ, sātyakiḥ bhīmasenaś ca, dhṛṣṭadyumnaś ca pārṣataḥ.

Sañjaya said: “When the valiant Śakuni, son of Subala, and the other foremost warriors have been slain in today’s battle, the enemy will also come to know the irresistible prowess of Mādrī’s sons, Nakula and Sahadeva. How could victory not belong to those whose champions are Dhanañjaya (Arjuna), Sātyaki, Bhīmasena, and Dhṛṣṭadyumna, the son of Pṛṣata?”
