To fulfill Bhīma’s cherished wish, Arjuna made this vow: “In battle I shall slay Karṇa and those who follow him, striking them down with my arrows.”

The verse highlights the binding power of a kṣatriya’s pratijñā (vow): once publicly resolved, it becomes a moral obligation. It also shows how personal loyalty (to Bhīma) can motivate action within the larger framework of dharma and wartime duty.
Arjuna declares a formal pledge that, to satisfy Bhīma’s desire, he will kill Karṇa along with Karṇa’s supporters in battle, specifically by means of his arrows—signaling an escalation of resolve and a commitment to future combat.
