atha sabhyāḥ sabhāmadhye samucchitakarās tadā | ūcur uddhignamanasaḥ saṁvegāt sarva eva hi ||
Then, in the midst of the royal assembly, the courtiers, raising their hands in agitation, spoke out—every one of them, their minds shaken and stirred by sudden alarm.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When wrongdoing or danger becomes evident, moral awareness can arise collectively; ethical responsibility is not only personal but also social—an assembly’s silence or speech reflects its dharma.
In the assembly hall, the courtiers become alarmed and emotionally shaken; they raise their hands and begin speaking all at once, signaling a sudden escalation and public reaction to the unfolding crisis.
