Vaiśampāyana said: Acting under Duryodhana’s control, Prātikāmī the sūta went to the royal residence. Distressed, he addressed Draupadī—conveying the command that she should come into the assembly and raise her question there, so that all the courtiers might hear both her challenge and Yudhiṣṭhira’s reply.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the moral danger of acting under unjust authority: Prātikāmī, compelled by Duryodhana’s dominance, becomes an instrument of coercion. It frames the ethical conflict between obedience to power and responsibility to dharma, foreshadowing the demand for public accountability in the assembly.
Duryodhana orders that Draupadī be summoned to the court to pose her question publicly. Prātikāmī, distressed yet compliant, goes to the palace and speaks to Draupadī, initiating the confrontation that will unfold in the assembly.
