Nārada’s Prelude to Describing the Divine Assemblies

vaiśampāyana uvāca evam uktvā sa dharmātmā vākyam tad abhipūjya ca | muhūrtāt prāptakālaṃ ca dṛṣṭvā lokacaraṃ munim |

Vaiśampāyana said: Having spoken thus, that righteous-souled king duly honored Nārada’s words. Then, after a short while, seeing that the proper moment had arrived and observing the sage Nārada—who roams through all the worlds—he prepared to approach him with reverence, to inquire further in the midst of the assembled kings.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights ethical conduct in seeking guidance: a ruler should honor wise counsel, wait for the proper moment, and approach a sage with restraint and respect—showing that dharma includes humility, gratitude, and sensitivity to time and circumstance.

After Nārada’s earlier discourse, Yudhiṣṭhira praises and honors it. He then waits briefly, judges that the right time has come, and turns his attention to the world-roaming sage Nārada, preparing to question him further before the gathered assembly.
