Nārada’s Prelude to Describing the Divine Assemblies

Educational Q&A

The verse frames a dharmic vision of governance and order by pointing to the exemplary ‘sabhas’ of major deities—courts where authority is grounded in wisdom (dhī) and cosmic regulation, implying that true sovereignty is aligned with higher moral and cosmic law.

Nārada announces that he will narrate the descriptions of the divine assembly-halls—those of Yama, Varuṇa, Indra, and the deity associated with dwelling on Kailāsa (commonly Kubera in this section)—as part of the broader Sabha Parva discussion of royal courts and their splendor.
