Duryodhana said: “Earlier, O Saubala, I made every effort to bring about his destruction. Yet, having overstepped all those dangers, he has only grown ever more—like a lotus flourishing in water.”
दुर्योधन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical contrast between malicious intent and steadfast prosperity: despite hostile schemes, a righteous or well-supported person can endure adversity and even flourish—symbolized by the lotus that grows in water.
Duryodhana addresses Śakuni, recalling his earlier attempts to ruin Yudhiṣṭhira. He laments that all the dangers and obstacles failed, and that Yudhiṣṭhira instead continued to prosper, like a lotus thriving in its watery setting.
