Dyūta-kathā-praśnaḥ — Inquiry into the Dice-Game Calamity
युधिछिर उवाच संशयो द्विपदां श्रेष्ठ ममोत्पन्न: सुदुर्लभ:
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca saṃśayo dvipadāṃ śreṣṭha mamotpannaḥ sudurlabhaḥ
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “O best among men, a doubt has arisen in me—one exceedingly difficult to resolve.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic posture: when faced with a grave and complex uncertainty, one should acknowledge the doubt openly and seek guidance from a wiser or more authoritative person rather than acting impulsively.
In the Sabha Parva setting, Yudhiṣṭhira begins a formal question by addressing a respected interlocutor as 'best among men' and states that a difficult doubt has arisen in him, preparing the ground for counsel on a challenging ethical issue.
