Jarāsandha–Bhīma Niyuddha-prastāvaḥ
Commencement of the Regulated Duel
सस््नातकान ब्राह्मणान् प्राप्ताछछुत्वा स समितिंजय: । अत्यर्धीत्रे नृपति: प्रत्युदूग॒च्छति भारत,भारत! युद्धविजयी राजा जरासंध स्नातक ब्राह्मणोंका आगमन सुनकर आधी रातके समय भी उनकी आवभगतके लिये उनके पास चला जाता था
snātakān brāhmaṇān prāptān śrutvā sa samitiṃjayaḥ | aty-ardharātre nṛpatiḥ pratyudgacchati bhārata ||
Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Hearing that snātaka Brahmins had arrived, that king—Samitiṃjaya (Jarasandha), victor in battle—would go out to receive them even at the very middle of the night, O Bhārata.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A ruler’s dharma includes prompt and sincere hospitality toward worthy guests—especially learned, disciplined Brahmins—placing duty and respect above personal convenience.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes Jarāsandha’s conduct: when snātaka Brahmins arrive, he immediately goes out to receive them, even if it is the middle of the night.
