Entry into Girivraja and Jarāsandha’s Protocol Inquiry
pratigṛhya ca tāṁ pūjāṁ pārthivād bhagavān ṛṣiḥ | uvāca māgadha rājan prahṛṣṭenāntarātmanā ||
Having accepted that honor offered by the king, the venerable sage—his heart inwardly delighted—addressed the ruler of Magadha: “O King, from Jarāsandha’s birth up to this moment, all events are known to me through divine sight. Now hear, O lord of kings, what your son will be like in the future.”
The verse highlights the dharmic exchange between ruler and sage: respectful honor (pūjā) offered to a worthy recipient is properly accepted, and spiritual authority is shown through truthful, compassionate guidance grounded in higher knowledge (divya-dṛṣṭi).
A revered sage accepts the king’s ceremonial honor and then addresses the Magadhan ruler, stating that he knows the full account of Jarāsandha from birth by divine vision and is about to foretell the future character and fate of the king’s son.
