Vasudeva said: “O son of Kuntī! That Madhusūdana—Lord of the world—who once displayed his might and freed Keśin and Kaṃsa from the bondage of the body, who sent to Yama’s realm the proud Cedi king Śiśupāla, the Niṣāda’s son Ekalavya, the king of Kaliṅga, the Kṣatriyas of Magadha, the Gandhāras, the king of Kāśī, and the desert kings—those very rulers who had even slaughtered the kings of the eastern, southern, and mountain regions—he has now disregarded this calamity that has arisen because of the youths’ misconduct.”

Educational Q&A

Even the all-powerful Lord who once removed great tyrants may choose not to intervene when a disaster is the fruit of one’s own unethical conduct; moral causality (karma) and the consequences of anīti are allowed to unfold.

Vasudeva addresses Arjuna, recalling Kṛṣṇa’s past feats—killing major foes and sending many kings to death—then laments that Kṛṣṇa has now ‘overlooked’ the present crisis, which has arisen due to the wrongdoing of the youths (the Yādava young men), foreshadowing the collapse of the Yādava clan.
