Omens Observed and the Hearing of the Vṛṣṇi Destruction

Vaiśampāyana said: “The illustrious wielder of the plough-weapon (Balarāma) will abandon his body and depart to the sea. And when the great-souled Kṛṣṇa is lying upon the earth, the hunter named Jarā will pierce him with his arrow(s), O king.”

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores impermanence and the inevitability of karmic fruition: worldly power and lineage-glory do not prevent the ordained consequences of collective misconduct. At the same time, Kṛṣṇa’s end is presented as the completion of his earthly role (līlā), not a defeat of divinity.

Vaiśampāyana foretells two climactic events after the Yādavas’ downfall begins: Balarāma will relinquish his body and go to the sea, and later Kṛṣṇa, resting on the ground, will be pierced by the hunter Jarā’s arrow(s).
