The Commencement of the Great Departure

श्वा चैवानुययावेक: प्रस्थितान्‌ पाण्डवान्‌ वनम्‌ | क्रमेण ते ययुर्वीरा लौहित्यं सलिलार्णवम्‌,वनको प्रस्थित हुए पाण्डवोंके पीछे एक कुत्ता भी चला जा रहा था। क्रमश: चलते हुए वे वीर पाण्डव लालसागरके तटपर जा पहुँचे

Transliteration

śvā caivānuyayāv ekaḥ prasthitān pāṇḍavān vanam | krameṇa te yayur vīrā lauhityaṃ salilārṇavam ||

Translation

Vaiśampāyana said: As the Pāṇḍavas set out for the forest on their final journey, a single dog followed them as well. Proceeding step by step, those heroic brothers eventually reached the waters of Lauhitya—the great ocean-like expanse—marking another threshold in their renunciant passage.
