vaiśampāyana uvāca | ityevaṃ dhṛtarāṣṭro 'tha vilapya bahu duḥkhitaḥ | provāca sañjayaṃ bhūyaḥ śokavyākulamānasaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Having thus lamented, Dhṛtarāṣṭra—deeply distressed and with a mind overwhelmed by grief—once again addressed Sañjaya.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of consequences: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s grief is not merely personal sorrow but the psychological aftermath of adharma-enabled decisions. It also underscores the need to face truth through reliable testimony (Sañjaya’s report), even when it is painful.
After lamenting at length, Dhṛtarāṣṭra—overcome by sorrow—speaks again to Sañjaya, continuing the dialogue in which Sañjaya recounts the events of the Kurukṣetra war.
