Shloka 31
राजन! समरांगणमें कर्णके बाणसमूहोंसे पीड़ित होते हुए पांचाल और सोमक योद्धा भी क्रोधपूर्वक एकत्र हो अपने पैने बाणोंसे सूतपुत्र कर्णको बींधने लगे ।। तान् सूतपुत्रो निजघान बाणै: पज्चालानां रथनागाश्चसंघान् | अभ्यर्दयद् बाणगणै: प्रसहा विद्ध्वा हर्षात् सड़रे सूतपुत्र:,किंतु उस रणक्षेत्रमें सूतपुत्र कर्णने बाणसमूहोंद्वारा हर्ष और उत्साहके साथ पांचालोंके रथियों, हाथीसवारों और घुड़सवारोंको घायल करके बड़ी पीड़ा दी और उन्हें बाणोंसे मार डाला
rājan! samarāṅgaṇe karṇake bāṇasamūhaiḥ pīḍitāḥ pāñcālāḥ somakāś ca yoddhāḥ krodhapūrvakam ekatrībhūya svaiḥ tīkṣṇaiḥ bāṇaiḥ sūtaputraṁ karṇaṁ vivyadhire || tān sūtaputro nijaghāna bāṇaiḥ pāñcālānāṁ rathanāgāśvasaṅghān | abhyardayad bāṇagaṇaiḥ prasahya viddhvā harṣāt sa raṇe sūtaputraḥ ||
Sañjaya said: “O King, though tormented on the battlefield by Karṇa’s volleys, the Pāñcāla and Somaka warriors, inflamed with anger, gathered together and began to pierce Karṇa, the son of a charioteer, with their sharp arrows. But Karṇa struck them down in return: with dense showers of arrows he forcefully harried the Pāñcālas’ companies of chariot-fighters, elephant-riders, and horsemen. Wounding them with exultant ardor amid the clash of war, the sūtaputra inflicted grievous pain and slew many with his shafts.”
