Sañjaya said: “Bhava (Śiva), seated in a celestial conveyance, arrived at that region. Brahmā and Mahādeva too—stationed in a divine aerial car—came to that place, accompanied by hosts of Brahmarṣis and the Prajāpatis. Seeing those two great-souled deities assembled there, Karṇa and Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) beheld them.”

Educational Q&A

The verse frames the battlefield as a moral-cosmic arena: even the highest divine and sage authorities are portrayed as witnesses. This underscores that actions in war are not merely political or personal but are judged against dharma, with consequences extending beyond human sight.

Sañjaya reports a theophanic moment: Bhava/Śiva arrives in a celestial vehicle, accompanied by Brahmā, Mahādeva, Brahmarṣis, and Prajāpatis. Karṇa and Arjuna see these great beings assembled, heightening the gravity of their impending confrontation.
