Sañjaya said: As Nakula charged forward, an opposing warrior rushed to meet him and pierced him from all sides with arrows. Though struck and harried by the shafts, Nakula—wounded yet unbroken—shot back at that hero, and, stung by the blows he had received, flared up in wrath.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights battlefield steadfastness—continuing one’s duty despite being wounded—while also pointing to the moral danger of krodha (anger), which can arise even amid a duty-bound fight and can cloud judgment.

Nakula charges forward; an opposing warrior counters, surrounding him with arrow-fire. Nakula, though struck, retaliates by piercing that hero, who then becomes enraged because he has been wounded.
