Sañjaya said: Then a battle of extreme ferocity arose between your enemies and your soldiers. It was a slaughter that destroyed chariots, horses, and elephants, and it appeared like the ancient war of the gods and the asuras.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how unchecked hostility can magnify conflict into overwhelming destruction; by likening the human battle to the devas–asuras war, it warns that when rivalry dominates, ethical restraint and proportion are easily lost.

Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that a fiercely destructive engagement has erupted between the Kaurava troops and their opponents, devastating chariots, horses, and elephants, and seeming like the legendary primordial clash between gods and asuras.
