Sañjaya said: Then those mighty, enemy-scorching Pāñcāla warriors, well-armoured and remounted upon their chariots, came together again in the battle and protected the foremost hero of the Śinis, Sātyaki—just as the hosts of the Maruts guard Indra when he is engaged in the suppression of foes.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the warrior-ethic of steadfast loyalty: true strength in dharma-aligned combat includes guarding comrades and sustaining the collective cause, not merely individual valor. The comparison to the Maruts protecting Indra elevates protective solidarity as a noble duty.

After a prior clash, the Pāñcāla great chariot-warriors re-arm and remount their chariots, then regroup on the battlefield to shield Sātyaki (the foremost Śini hero). Their protective formation is likened to the Maruts surrounding Indra while he subdues enemies.
