Sanjaya said: O King, the foremost warriors of the Kurus, with their powerful forces, charged at Bhima. The son of Kunti seemed as though he were sinking in that sea of troops. Seeing this, Dhananjaya (Arjuna), intent on rescuing him, turned away from the Suta’s son’s (Karna’s) army and struck in that direction, sending many enemy heroes to Yama’s realm with his arrows.

Educational Q&A

Even amid the chaos of war, dharma expresses itself as responsibility toward one’s own: Arjuna prioritizes the immediate protection of his brother and ally over continuing a direct engagement elsewhere, showing that right action includes timely rescue and steadfast loyalty.

Kaurava elite forces surge against Bhima, who appears overwhelmed like a man sinking in a sea of soldiers. Arjuna, determined to save him, breaks off from confronting Karna’s forces and attacks the assailants, killing many with his arrows.
