Sañjaya said: They struck at Bhīma’s foremost mount—his chariot-team—swift and powerful, assailing it from every side with volleys of arrows. Then the great-souled Bhīmasena, as those shafts rushed upon him, cut them down with his own arrows fitted with golden feathers. In the ethic of the battlefield, the verse highlights disciplined skill and presence of mind: even amid encirclement, Bhīma answers aggression with controlled precision rather than panic.

Educational Q&A

Even in violent conflict, the text praises steadiness, alertness, and measured response: Bhīma does not lose control when surrounded; he meets danger with trained precision, reflecting the ideal of disciplined kṣatriya conduct.

Bhīma’s chariot-team/front is attacked from all directions by volleys of arrows. Bhīma then intercepts the incoming shafts, cutting them down with his own arrows described as having golden fletchings.
