Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how fear inevitably overtakes those whose strength rests on pride and external supports: when the chief protector falls, confidence collapses and the unrighteous cause loses cohesion.

Sañjaya describes (in vivid simile) the expected panic and scattering of the Kaurava forces—fleeing in all directions like deer startled by a lion—especially in the context of Karṇa being slain and the Kaurava side losing its main champion.
