Sanjaya said: “O King, when Janardana (Krishna) had spoken thus, Arjuna, the son of Kunti, warmly praised that well-wishing, friendly counsel. Then, however, Arjuna began to address Dharmaraja (Yudhishthira) with harsh words—words he had never spoken before—uttering them with force and stubborn insistence.”
संजय उवाच
Even when one recognizes and praises wise counsel, intense grief and battlefield pressure can still provoke speech that violates restraint and fraternal respect. The verse highlights the ethical danger of harsh, unprecedented words—how anger can momentarily eclipse dharma, especially toward those who embody it (Dharmaraja).
Sanjaya reports that after Krishna speaks to Arjuna, Arjuna appreciates Krishna’s friendly advice. Immediately afterward, however, Arjuna turns toward Yudhishthira and begins speaking unusually harshly and forcefully, setting up a tense exchange among the Pandava brothers in the midst of the war crisis.
