तत् ते न प्रत्यसूयामि न च सर्व विधीयते । प्रभवार्थाय भूतानां धर्मप्रवचनं कृतम्,किंतु मैं तुम्हारे निकट इन दोनों मतोंके ऊपर कोई दोषारोपण नहीं करता; परंतु केवल वेदोंके द्वारा सभी धर्म-कर्मोंका विधान नहीं होता; इसीलिये धर्मज्ञ महर्षियोंने समस्त प्राणियोंके अभ्युदय और नि:श्रेयसके लिये उत्तम धर्मका प्रतिपादन किया है
tat te na pratyasūyāmi na ca sarva vidhīyate | prabhavārthāya bhūtānāṃ dharmapravacanaṃ kṛtam ||
Vāyu said: “I do not censure you for holding those views. Yet it is not the case that every rule of dharma and action is laid down solely by the Vedas. Therefore, the dharma-knowing great seers have articulated and taught excellent dharma for the welfare, uplift, and highest good of all living beings.”
वायुदेव उवाच
Vāyu affirms a plural and welfare-oriented grounding of dharma: while the Vedas are authoritative, not every practical rule is explicitly found there; hence sages formulate and teach dharma aimed at the flourishing and ultimate good of all beings.
Vāyudeva addresses another speaker’s competing viewpoints about dharma, refuses to blame them, and then clarifies that ethical guidance is also articulated by dharma-knowing seers to serve the common good, not only derived verbatim from Vedic injunctions.
