Even amid intense warfare, action is portrayed as most meaningful when it remains disciplined and oriented toward guidance and right judgment—symbolized by Arjuna turning to Vāsudeva after accomplishing a difficult martial task.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, fighting within the main body of the army, has killed many Saṁśaptaka warriors and then speaks to Kṛṣṇa (his charioteer and guide), setting up the next instruction or tactical/ethical exchange.
