Arjuna’s Rapid Advance and the Bhīma–Śakuni Encounter
दुर्योधनबलं सर्व निरुत्साहं कृतव्रणम् निश्चैष्ट तुमुलं दीनं बभौ तस्मिन् महारणे,उस महासमरमें दुर्योधनकी सारी सेना भीमसेनके भयसे पीड़ित हो स्तब्ध-सी खड़ी थी। उत्साहशून्य, घायल, निश्रेष्ट, भयंकर और अत्यन्त दीन-सी प्रतीत होती थी
duryodhana-balaṃ sarvaṃ nirutsāhaṃ kṛta-vraṇam | niścaiṣṭaṃ tumulaṃ dīnaṃ babhau tasmin mahāraṇe ||
Sañjaya said: In that great battle, all of Duryodhana’s forces appeared drained of spirit and covered with wounds—motionless, thrown into confusion, and utterly dejected—paralyzed by fear of Bhīmasena.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that military strength depends not only on numbers and weapons but on morale and ethical confidence; when fear and guilt-driven insecurity arise, even a large force can become inert and pitiable.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that in the midst of the great battle, Duryodhana’s entire army—wounded and shaken—stands stunned and spiritless, overwhelmed by terror of Bhīmasena’s prowess.
