Krishna’s Counsel, Arjuna’s Apology, and Authorization for Karṇa’s Slaying
ते व्यमुड्चञ्छरव्रातान् नानालिड्रान् समन्तत: । स तैरभ्यर्ध्यमानस्तु भीमसेनो महाबल:
te vyamuñcañ charavrātān nānāliḍrān samantataḥ | sa tair abhyardhyamānas tu bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ ||
Sañjaya said: From every side they loosed volleys of arrows of many kinds. Hard pressed by those shafts, the mighty Bhīmasena endured the assault, standing firm amid the encircling attack.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights steadfastness under pressure: even when surrounded by danger and struck from all sides, a righteous warrior is expected to remain composed and resolute, embodying courage and endurance as part of kṣatriya-dharma.
In the battle scene narrated by Sañjaya, opposing fighters unleash dense, varied volleys of arrows from all directions. Bhīma (Bhīmasena), though heavily assailed, stands as a powerful figure enduring the onslaught.
