Sañjaya said: “O lord of the people, then the clamour of many kinds of war-instruments burst forth. From every side arose the lion-like roars of heroes shouting their challenges—an ominous swell of martial ardour that signals the battle’s escalation and the hardening of resolve on both sides.”

The verse highlights how collective emotion and intention in war become audible: instruments and battle-cries intensify courage and aggression. Ethically, it underscores the gravity of entering violence—once the martial momentum rises, restraint becomes harder, so responsibility for choosing war is weighty.
Sañjaya reports to the king that the battlefield suddenly fills with the din of diverse war-instruments and the lion-like roars of warriors challenging one another, indicating that the armies are surging toward heightened engagement.
