अस्त्रयुद्धे द्रौणिपार्थसंघर्षः — Karṇa’s Bhārgavāstra and the Search for Yudhiṣṭhira
Chapter 45
श्रूयते तुमुल: शब्दो यथा मेघस्वनो महान्
śrūyate tumulaḥ śabdo yathā meghasvano mahān
Sañjaya said: “A tremendous roar is heard—vast and rolling, like the deep thunder of clouds.”
संजय उवाच
The verse offers no direct injunction, but it ethically frames war as an all-consuming upheaval: the thunder-like roar conveys how collective aggression magnifies beyond individual intent, reminding the listener of the grave, destabilizing consequences when dharma collapses into violence.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that an immense, tumultuous sound rises on the battlefield—likened to thunder—indicating intensified fighting and the surge of armies, weapons, and cries into a single overwhelming din.
