कर्णभीमसमागमः | Karṇa–Bhīma Encounter
ततः पार्थेन संग्रामे युध्यमानस्य तेडनघ । वाहयिष्यामि तुरगान् विज्वरो भव सूतज
tataḥ pārthena saṅgrāme yudhyamānasya te 'nagha | vāhayiṣyāmi turagān vijvaro bhava sūtaja ||
Śalya said: “When you engage in battle with Pārtha (Arjuna) on the field, O sinless one, I shall indeed drive your horses. Be free from anxiety, O son of a charioteer.”
शल्य उवाच
The verse highlights the battlefield ethic of role-based duty (ratha-sārathi and warrior): success in war depends not only on personal valor but also on reliable support. Śalya’s assurance aims to steady Karṇa’s mind, emphasizing composure and confidence as strategic virtues.
Śalya addresses Karṇa and promises that when Karṇa fights Arjuna, Śalya will drive Karṇa’s horses. He urges Karṇa to be free from anxiety, offering practical and psychological support before the climactic confrontation.
