After Droṇa’s fall: army despondency and Karṇa’s advance
For whatever is to befall a man—whether not yet come to pass or surely to come—follows the appointed course. Whether it is gained or not gained, the wise are not distressed. By the force of karma already set in motion (prārabdha), a man may obtain the object he desires, or he may fail to obtain it; therefore, in gain or in loss, no discerning person is carried away by excessive joy or pain.
